I'm a little late this week because I've been so busy shopping for your super expensive, incredibly thoughtful Holiday gift. Yes, I DID say Holiday rather than Christmas which irritates some people. That's such a STUPID thing to get irritated about. There are other holidays happening this time of year so stop being so you-centric and realize other people may not observe Christmas. I DO observe Christmas and I LOVE it. It really is the most wonderful time of the year. I will NEVER list new Christmas albums here because I only listen to Christmas music made by people who are now dead. It's my creedo. The only exception is Tony Bennett because he's awesome and 103 years old.

Anyway, here is this weeks short list. It's the last of the year. Next week I will post my list favorite records of 2013. I will not be doing genre specific lists (i.e. Best Metal Records) this year because that's way more typing that I'm interested in. Someday I'll have someone who types FOR me and then I'll update this site every 33 seconds. I can't wait either!

Neil Young  Live At The Cellar Door -

Reprise Records
Reprise Records

There have been a lot of these type of releases from Neil Young but that doesn't mean it's not fantastic. This was recorded in 1970 at the Cellar Door in Washington D.C. It's Neil, his guitar (and at some points a piano).  Check out 'Old Man':

Mastadon  Live At Brixton -

Warner Bros. Records
Warner Bros. Records

Another live album. The Brixton Academy is the venue for one of my all time favorite live records in Faith No More's 'Live At The Brixton Academy'. Get that one too. It's so damn good. Anyway, this one is good too. Mastodon is a great live band and those dudes can PLAY. Plus, what a great band name. I've been following them since their early Relapse Records years. I always root for cool, non mainstream-y bands on major labels. It's good for music when bands like this can make big record companies money because then more bands like them will get a shot.

The Civil Wars Bare Bones E.P. -

I love The Civil Wars and was bummed when they announced earlier this year that they were going on an indefinite hiatus/breaking up. It reminds me of when Hall & Oates first broke up. Being a duo ain't easy. Just ask the Captain....or Tenille.

This is E.P. is well named as it is bare bones. These two are good enough to make it awesome. It's not new music and it's likely a cash grab by the record company but it's still awesome.  If you like them, you'll like it. If you don't like them, why don't you like them? Maybe YOU are the real reason we may never hear any new music from them. Real nice.

I couldn't find a legit, non pirate-y stream of anything from this E.P. so I'm posting the original version of the song 'Oh Henry' which appears in a ...bare bones version on the E.P.

The Veer Union Life Support Vol. 1-

Minus 4 Records
Minus 4 Records

I've always liked these guys. I've interviewed them multiple times and they're really nice guys. I think the only guy left in the band since I saw them is Crispin. Not exactly sure what went down on that front but I dig this E.P. They utilized Kickstarter to get funding to make the record and I'm sure the funders will be pleased with their investment. Heavy, melodic stuff. Crispin is a fantastic singer. Support these guys because they're good. They would support you.

That's it for this week. Next week, I will post my super magnificent year end best of list. I want to see yours if you're posting one too- your favorite music, movies, books, games...whatever. I'd love to see it. It being your list. Sicko.
