Colorado has incredibly strict laws when it comes to fireworks, and it is illegal to set off any type of firework that either leaves the ground, explodes, or fragments.

These include any type of firecracker, like M-80s or Cherry Bombs, as well as Roman Candles, mortars, and bottle rockets.
In essence, a good rule of thumb is that if you can purchase a type of firework in a store located in Colorado, it's legal to set off in certain parts of the state. However, there are plenty of areas in which fireworks are completely banned.
Where is it Illegal to set off Fireworks in Colorado?
While some fireworks like snakes and sparklers are technically legal in Colorado, it is illegal to set them off in any of the state's National Parks, State Parks, local parks, golf courses, forests, and city streets.
In addition, fireworks are completely illegal in Adams County, Arapahoe County, Arvada, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Denver, Edgewater, Fort Collins, Golden, Greenwood Village, Jefferson County, Lafayette, Larimer County, Littleton, Louisville, Morrison, Northglenn, Parker, Severence, Sheridan, Thornton, Vail, Wheat Ridge, and Windsor.
Possession of illegal fireworks in Colorado is considered a petty offense and may be punishable by up to ten days in jail and a fine of $300. However, some cities and counties have harsher penalties.
