One of the most popular tourist destinations in Colorado is also one of the state’s four National Parks, and that is The Great Sand Dunes.

Located in the southeast corner of the state near Alamosa, the Great Sand Dunes are known for being the tallest sand dune area in North America, but they also have numerous nearby spots that are also popular, including an alligator farm and an oasis of sorts known as Sand Dunes Recreation - Natural Hot Artesian Water.

This attraction is a relaxing escape, fun for the entire family, but also has a feature that is unique in that it’s available to only adult visitors.

Colorado’s Adults-Only Hot Springs Near the Great Sand Dunes

The hot springs are located at 1991 County Road 63 in Hooper, Colorado, which is right outside of Alamosa and a short drive from the Great Sand Dunes.

The section of the hot springs that is reserved for adults only is known as the Greenhouse, which was built inside an actual 10,000 square foot greenhouse.

Inside the Greenhouse, which is reserved for adults who are 21 years of age or older, there are a total of four hot springs pools, each of which has different temperatures, a ten-person sauna, tropical gardens, food options, a full bar, patios, and more.

There are also numerous lodging options at this oasis of sorts, including cabins, camping, and numerous places for RV parking.

Colorado's Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, the Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and National Park Service Director Chuck Sams celebrated the transfer of roughly 9,362 acres of The Medano Ranch from the Nature Conservancy to Great Sand Dunes National Park.
