Drama Surrounds Proposed New Colorado Buc-ee’s Store
About a year ago, Colorado was introduced to the deep south chain of massive convenience stores known as Buc-ee's as the first location in the Centennial State opened its doors in Johnstown.
However, as the chain prepares to break ground on a second location in southern Colorado, fierce opposition has arisen due to its proposed proximity to Greenland Ranch.
So, what exactly is going on with the proposed new Buc-ee's store?

Where Would Colorado's New Buc-ee's Store Be Located?
The proposed second Buc-ee's store would be located north of Palmer Lake near Greenland Ranch, specifically just off of I-25 and County Line Road.
This particular area is between Monument and Larkspur, which is primarily known as the setting for the Colorado Renaissance Festival.
What is Colorado's Greenland Ranch?
According to Great Outdoors Colorado, Greenland Ranch is “one of Colorado’s most important conservation projects of all time.”
Greenland Ranch is home to a variety of wildlife and stunning views, and efforts to conserve the land have been put forth by lawmakers and members of the community since 1977.

Why Are People Opposed to Colorado's New Buc-ee's Location?
Opponents of the new Buc-ee's store cite potential negative impacts on wildlife, water resources, increased traffic, and the environment in general as reasons why it should not move forward.
Colorado Senator Michael Bennet echoed these concerns in a recent statement, citing similar reasons as well as the state's history of fighting to protect its natural beauty.
