A few months back, we were feeling pretty optimistic that maybe - just maybe - the Colorado Rockies were going to be a bit better this year than they were last year.

They are. And they're not.

They are in fact 15 wins better at this point in this 2026 season than they were a year ago. Through this date in 2025, their record was 20-67 and they were on pace to finish the season with the worst losing record in MLB history.

This year, they're currently sitting at 35-53, a full 15 wins ahead of where they were at this point last year. For comparison, last year they didn't get that 35th win until August 12.

The glass isn't exactly half full, however. They still have the worst record in baseball, tied with the Kansas City Royals as their fellow cellar dweller.

But there have been noticeable improvements. Their clutch hitting has been significantly better, with the team batting average with runners in scoring position jumping from second to last in MLB last year all the way up to sitting at 3rd overall, currently for this season.

All that being said, they are still on pace for a 63-99 record this season. While a far cry from last year's brutal 119-loss finish, it would still be the 4th worst record in Rockies history, behind only the last three years as the three worst ever for the franchise.

Is it too late to finish better than projected? Absolutely not, there's still plenty of time to improve. We're not even halfway there. Although, indeed, we may be living on a prayer.
