What We As a Society Lack – Fighters

So, the title of this blog could be a little bit misleading. I'm not talking about people who get in the ring and pummel each other or go to concerts just pick fights, actually it's pretty much the opposite. I must warn you, this is one of those times I go a little soft on you and preach about life. And over the last few days I have realized we as a society have a problem... We are quitters.
There is no longer such a thing as loyalty. No longer is there commitment that runs deeper than the sea. It is far too easy and too accepted to quit these days. There is always something newer, better, and hotter.
Look at the divorce rate for example. I don't know why they still include the line "till death do us part" in wedding vows. There is no fight. People are ruining families to sleep with the dirty secretary. They are getting into simple fights about money and instead of working through it, are splitting up. Can we make it so there is some sort of penalty for people who get divorced? More than the court fees and such, we need to fine the hell out of the person who quit on their "I do!"
Lack of fight also goes into sports these days. The best example I can give close to home is Carmelo Anthony leaving the Denver Nuggets. 9 years we spent loving, supporting, and cheering for the guy and he ditches town for the next bigger, better, newer thing. Just as I don't understand people saying "I do" when they don't, I don't get why athletes sign contracts that are for, say, 5 years, and you know damn good and well that they will only be there for 3 years.
It also seems to be the new trend to quit your band to join a different one. What about the fans who have been there to support you, and make you who you are? Do they mean nothing?
When we get into it with our boss, we quit our jobs, when our team is in last place half-way through the season, we quit watching, when we find a hot new chick to talk to, we ditch our girlfriends. I could go on...
Change isn't always bad. Sometimes situations dictate that a change must be made when there is no other way to fix it, but we are so quick to quit these days that I think a lot of good things never get a chance to blossom. Remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side, and rational decisions may please you in the moment, but there are a lot of days after that pleasurable moment that will now be spent without what you once had.
I also know people who are the exact opposite. People who don't do things because in the heat of the moment they made a split second decision. Guys like a co-worker of mine who could have any job in radio in the country but chooses to stay in Northern Colorado because he has fans who love him, and he loves back. Guys like Todd Helton of the Colorado Rockies who had multiple offers to leave the Rockies in his prime but choose to stick it out through tough years and now will forever live in team history. People that have been married for 50 years, and cant stand each other at times, but at the end of the day would do anything in the world to make sure the other person knew they were loved. These people also happen to be the most happy, successful, and kind people in the world.
Is there a correlation between good people and fighters? I think so! Don't be a quitter, be a fighter!
