One of the icons of the 80's was the art of Patrick Nagel.

His biography would tell you Patrick Nagel "was a graduate of the Choinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. Since 1980, his images, which were influenced by the Japanese woodblock print, had gained nationwide popularity."

I would tell you that-- NO tribute to the 1980's would be complete without mention of the man and his prints.

Nagel came to fame mostly due to doing the cover art for Duran Duran's hugely successful "Rio" album.

Then it seemed his work was everywhere- rent a movie from the 80's and you are bound to see one of his pieces on somebody's wall. My own wall featured a few of his Art Deco masterpieces.

What I did not know before writing this article, is that Nagel died of a heart attack at the age of 38, at the height of his career.
