Yes I know Genesis was originally a 5 man band, but it has consisted of only three members since 1977. Most live shows however, Phil Collins,Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford are joined by one or two touring musicians. A stretch, maybe, but Genesis is technically a three man band!

Although most people think of Stevie Ray Vaughan as a solo artist, his most successful material came from his time in a three man band, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Although, they dropped out of the three man category when they added a keyboard player in 1985.

How can you not include a band that was the first ever to have a platinum-selling double album with Wheel's of Fire? Bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce, guitarist/vocalist Eric Clapton, and drummer Ginger Baker did music the right way, it just didn't last very long. Still in the short time they were making music together the band managed to sell over 15 million albums.

It would be hard to name a band unchanged, and unstoppable for over 45 years, but one of the very few on that list is Rush. Consisting of vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and in many peoples opinion the best drummer ever Neil Peart, Rush went through all of their changes quickly going unchanged now since 1974. 40 million records sold worldwide hasn't slowed Rush down either, new music is still coming from the band as well as world tours almost every summer.

"That Little Ol' Band from Texas" has been going strong since the three formed the current line-up of "bearded" rockers in 1969. Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill continue to wow fans with there fuzzy guitars, hot rods, and long beards, while (the beardless) Frank Beard bangs on the drums. ZZ Top has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, including 25 million albums in the US alone and were inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. A new album should be available to the public in the spring, and you don't have to go far to check out a live show as the band still tours constantly.
