Routes to Avoid Presidential Debate Traffic Closures

From 5pm until 10pm this evening a six mile stretch of the most traveled road in Denver, I-25, will be closed. The Colorado Department of Transportation has provided alternate routes, and there will be detours laid out, but what happens when those get crowded? You'll need alternates for the alternates. So here are some suggestions...

From the southwest side of Denver:

• If you planned on taking Santa Fe, consider heading west to Federal Boulevard, Sheridan Boulevard or Wadsworth Boulevard.
• C-470 will run very crowded westbound across Highlands Ranch and Littleton, so County Line Road to northbound Santa Fe, then head westbound to Mineral Avenue, and finally northbound to Wadsworth.

From the east and southeast side of Denver:

• If you are taking I-225, construction near Mississippi and Colfax avenues will keep that drive dense, so try northbound Peoria Avenue or Havana Street to the west, or northbound Chambers Road to the east.
• E-470 will cost you a toll, but you will be able to keep your speeds high and the volume will be lighter.
• Options through Central Denver to avoid the University Boulevard closure include using Colorado Boulevard and northbound Lincoln Street.

From the north and northwest side of Denver:

• Interstate-76, Interstate-70 and C-470 will be your main routes to avoid the I-25 closure, but you may want to try southbound Wadsworth Boulevard or Kipling Street to the west.

From the northeast side of Denver:

• 56th Avenue will help you avoid I-70, and southbound Peoria will get you around I-225. Further to the east, southbound Chambers and southbound Airport Boulevard should run slightly lighter.

...But maybe your best bet would be somewhere between the intersection of your living room and kitchen. The best suggestion we can offer is to stay as far away from all of this as possible, it will not be fun to drive in.
