As a music fan there is always something new and great, but there really is something special about the songs you grew up listening to. For me, that was 70′s and 80′s classic rock. If I am in a shi**y mood, I throw in a little Zeppelin or Rush and take a trip back to rolling in my mom’s T-Bird. Now every Wednesday you get to take that trip with me. It’s Way Back Wednesday with Butch, and today’s feature is a big hit we heard for the first time during this exact month 30 years ago in 1984… Night Ranger’s, “Sister Christian.”

"Sister Christian" was released in April 1984 as the second single from their album Midnight Madness, and was ranked number 32 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of the 1980s. The song was written and sung by the band's drummer, Kelly Keagy, for his sister, and became band's biggest hit, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and staying on the charts for 24 weeks.

Keagy grew up in Eugene, Oregon, where "Motoring" was a term for driving around with your friends, often trying to pick up girls.

While some groups can't stand the sound of their signature song, Night Ranger isn't one of them. Jack Blades explained: "To me, it's a highlight to every one of our shows, instead of it being a curse. Maybe a lot of bands think of their big hit as, 'Ugh, we don't want to play that.' But that's not the way it is for Night Ranger. We really do love that song."

Now take a trip back 30 years to 1984 with us here...
