Man. Yet ANOTHER strong release week. It's an especially strong week if you're a fan of metal. I am. I'm WAY metal. Metal-er than a lot of people you know who you may have thought were pretty damn metal. My lists are never meant to be all inclusive lists of every single thing released in a week so, climb off. You get so uptight sometimes. A lot of the time. Almost always. Try some yoga. Maybe while you listen to this stuff.

There is SO much heavy stuff out this week that I'm doing a full post just on metal. I'll post a non metal/rock list tomorrow because there is some really cool stuff that won't require you give your soul to Satan to enjoy.

I'll assume you know Seether released their greatest hits package (just in time for the holidays) and Linkin Park released the remix record (...holidays) so I won't highlight those other than that.

Sepultura "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart"

As you may have heard, Sepultura have been forced to cancel their North American Tour due to visa issues. Drag. On the bright side, the man and his visa regulations can't stop the release of their new record. Derrick Green has been the new singer in the band...since 1998. He's not the new singer anymore ma man. He's proven his baddassery and they've put out some killer stuff with him. Check out, 'Trauma Of War', 'Impending Doom' and the first single, 'The Age Of The Atheist'.

Protest The Hero "Volition"

I kind of envy you if you've never heard Protest The Hero. They are SO good and you get to discover it without already knowing how good they are. Did I ruin it for you? If you like your music heavy, with tight, incredibly complex guitars WITH melodies that get stuck in your head, you, ma man are in luck. The fans (you?) funded this record via, Indiegogo. I think that whole idea is pretty great. I've really turned the corner on it. A band you love keeps making music as a DIRECT result of your financial love. Check out 'Drumhead Trial', 'Skies' and 'Clarity' (video below). You can stream the entire record at Loudwire.com here.

Skeletonwitch "Serpents Unleashed"

If you're in the mood for old school vibed, demon vocal-ed, black metal-y, thrash you can't go wrong with Skeletonwitch. They haven't put out a bad record and they have a pretty righteous name. These guys were all born in a fjord somewhere in Scandinavia* which should give you an idea of their sound. Check 'This Evil Embrace', 'Born Of The Light That Does Not Shine' and the title track.

Devin Townsend 'The Retinal Circus'

Devin Townsend is unlike anyone else. In a really great way. I first heard him sing on the Steve Vai record "Sex And Religion" and was blown away by his voice. Devin went on to form Strapping Young Lad (check them out...do it). THIS record is a live concert with his Devin Townsend Project band so it's not as heavy as Strapping Young Lad but it's just so damn good - melodic, powerful and huge. He's a unique talent and you owe it to you to listen to his stuff.

Other metal releases to check this week:

Giant Squid 'Monster In The Creek' (Reissue)

LOVE these guys. This is an early release from them...

Doyle Airence 'Monolith'

atmospheric, post hardcore with some great melody

Toxic Holocaust 'Chemistry Of Consciousness'

old school thrashtasticness

Zodiac 'A Hiding Place'

Stoner-y bluesy heavy rock. COOL.

Warbringer 'IV:Empires Collapse'

Even MORE thrashnificence.

Winds Of Plague 'Resistance'

Southern California deathcore. Catch them with Bleeding Through, Oceano, Gideon, Sworn In at Summit Music Hall on 11/1.

Kill Devil Hill 'Revolution Rise'
