My Take on Adam Gontier Leaving Three Days Grace
This news has been all over our website and frankly, it's all I can really think about. I only have 2 favorite bands and Three Days Grace is one of them. Before you read this blog, you should catch up on the full story here.
Now that you're as upset as I am, let's break this down. First, I want to say that I totally respect the band for their quick thinking. It's crunch time, and to change your front man for possibly the biggest rock show of the year can't be easy. Matt Walst, front man for My Darkest Days is not a bad singer by any means. However, he is in no way cut out to fill the shoes of Adam Gontier. After listening to him cover some of Three Days Grace most popular songs, I wanted to hit somebody.
The people I feel the worst for though, are the fans. Adam claims he's leaving for health issues that are not life threatening, nor drug related. He also stated that he was thankful for his fans helping to get him out of that dark time in his life. That dark time being when he was on drugs. This is no way to repay the fans who have stuck by this band for several years. I can't judge too harshly though, as I have no idea what health conditions he's going through.
So now we're only left with questions... What happens after the tour? Hell, what happens before the tour? Fans are outraged and the general response is the same everywhere. "Matt Walst sounds nothing like Adam Gontier!" "This is horrible! We want Adam back!" Don't be surprised if they change their mind about Matt. I'm guessing that after the tour their's no way they'll use him as the official replacement. My opinion, hang up the guitars and leave the fans with the memories and music of an awesome band.
I truly believe that when a band loses it's front man, they've lost their identity. It sucks that all the talented people in the band have to rely on that one guy, but that's how a band works. I truly do wish Adam, and Three Days Grace well. Be sure to check back into Loudwire for any updates on this story.
