Motley Crue Rocks Cheyenne Tomorrow, But Who Are They? [VIDEO]

Cheyenne Frontier Days, known for rodeos, cowboys, and country music, and until a few years back the craziest show on stage to come through town was Garth Brooks. The folks decided to turn up the volume a little and bring in a rock band for one show each year at the Daddy Of 'Em All. The likes of Def Leppard, Steve Miller Band, and Kiss have since graced the stage in Cheyenne. This year though, Frontier Days is going even a step further. Bringing Motley Crue means bringing sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll at it's hardest. We know Motley Crue for being party animals, but who are they really? Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, bassist Nikki Sixx decided he wanted to form a Southern California rock band that was different from the clean cut bands of the time in the area, He met drummer Tommy Lee in L.A. and they instantly became life-long best friends. They then found guitarist Mick Mars in a local ad, but were short a singer. Tommy Lee remembered Vince Neil from high school, and soon introduced him to the others already in the band. They knew he was their man, and so begins the history of one of the most recognizable bands in rock history, Motley Crue.

Nikki Sixx

The founder of Motley Crue, and now a pop culture icon and entrepreneur. The king of the partiers in band, or at least he used to be, Sixx was actually declared dead for two minutes in 1987 after heroin overdose. He eventually survived and tells about the incident and all about the band's memorable events in his book, The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star. Sixx has also branched off to form a few different side projects with his most recent being his most successfull yet, Sixx A.M.  Sixx now does a syndicated radio show called the Sixx Sense and is avidly involved in charity work.

Tommy Lee

Possibly known more for the women he has dated and married than what he has done with Motley Crue, Tommy Lee is the prototypical rock star. His most popular relationship was the married he had to Pamela Anderson. From the notorious sex tape, to Lee serving jail time for kicking Anderson while she was holding one of their two children, the marriage was one of the most notorious in Hollywood history. Lee, like Sixx, has had a successful carreer away from Motley Crue too. Reality television, and a successful tour as a club D.J. have made Lee a small fortune away from the band. He is also know for his crazy antics on stage including a roller coaster drum set that he designed for the current tour.

Vince Neil

The voice of Motley Crue, but not always. Conflicting accounts from Neil and band on weather he left or was fired in 1992, either way left Motley Crue without Neil, and Neil on his own. He eventually put out two solo albums with not much commercial success, and reunited with the band in 1997. And, if it is true you cant be a rock star without getting into trouble, than Neil is a full fledged star. His biggest legal issue came when he was driving a car drunk when he lost control killing the drummer of the Finnish band Hanoi Rocks. He has also been arrested for punching his producer, assaulting a sex worker at a brothel, and again for driving drunk in 2010. Neil now lives in Las Vegas and owns bars, tattoo parlors, stores, and even his own brand of tequila.

Mick Mars

The most mysterious figure in the band, Mick Mars is by far the most private man in the group. Although he is considered one of the best guitarists of his era, Mars is the least entertaining on stage. Mostly because he has a health issue known as ankylosing spondylitis, a chronic, inflammatory form of arthritis that mainly affects the spine and pelvis. It was initially diagnosed when he was 19 years old, and has increasingly impaired his movement and has caused him a great deal of pain. This led to hip-replacement surgery at the end of 2004. Most believe Mars to be the most articulate member of Motley Crue, but he has continued to stay out of the spotlight letting the other members of the band do almost all the interviews and such. Today Mars plays guitar on some of the most popular bands albums and also helps to write music when not touring with Motley Crue.
