Kid Rock, ‘Only God Knows Why’ – Butch’s Way Back Wednesday

As a music fan there is always something new and great, but there really is something special about the songs you grew up listening to. For me, that was 70′s and 80′s classic rock. If I am in a shi**y mood, I throw in a little Zeppelin or Rush and take a trip back to rolling in my mom’s T-Bird. Now every Wednesday you get to take that trip with me. It’s Way Back Wednesday with Butch, and today’s feature only goes back to 1998 with the man who will rock the stage a Cheyenne Frontier Days this summer… Kid Rock's, "Only God Knows Why."

I am not shy to say that I am a rock guy who loves a good ballad, so when I decided to feature Bob Ritchie AKA Kid Rock, I knew what song I would be playing!

Now there are a couple of reason's I choose Kid Rock today. First, he will be in Cheyenne for Frontier Days this coming July, and I happen to have a pair of tickets to give away to that show everyday this week. And today is also the anniversary of Kid Rock's birthday concert at Detroit's Ford Field in 2011. The venue was renamed (for the day) "40 Field" in honor of Rock's 40th birthday, and over 45,000 attend the show, which sold out in 19 minutes.

The song itself peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100, #13 on Modern Rock Tracks, #5 Mainstream Rock Tracks and # 23 Hot AC. It was the first recorded ballad on record by Kid Rock. It was a weary road ballad in which the first four lines were written while he was in jail after a bar fight after signing to Atlantic Records in 1997. VH-1 named it the 19th greatest power ballad in 2002.
