K-9 Caught Fleeing Suspect in Fort Collins
A 23-year-old Kansas man who fled Larimer County Sheriff's officers in Fort Collins on Monday was eventually apprehended by a department K-9.
Caleb Alberto Vasquez of Tribune, Kansas was later booked into the Larimer County Jail and also was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries to his lower leg from a K-9 bite, according to a Larimer County press release.
The incident began just before 7 p.m. when a Larimer County Sheriff's deputy attempted to pull over a Chevy Impala with a stolen license plate near the Highway 287 and North Shields Street intersection. The Impala failed to stop and led authorities to onto a farm property.
Vazquez and fellow Impala passenger April Clarissa Daniels, 35 of Fort Collins, initially exited the vehicle. Daniels got back in the car and fled the scene. Vazquez fled on foot to the farm property, where the K-9 eventually located him.
Vazquez was booked for an outstanding warrant. He also faces five new charges: second-degree burglary, first-degree introduction of contraband, first-degree criminal trespass, obstructing a peace officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $550.
The Impala was later stopped with road spikes. Daniels initially ignored commands from authorities and a taser was used to apprehend her.
Daniels faces seven charges for the incident: vehicular eluding, DUI, second-degree burglary, driving after revocation, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer and having an open alcoholic beverage container. Her bond was set at $850.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in the court of law. An arrest is merely and accusation of a crime by law enforcement.
