As a music fan there is always something new and great, but there really is something special about the songs you grew up listening to. For me, that was 70′s and 80′s classic rock. If I am in a shi**y mood, I throw in a little Zeppelin or Rush and take a trip back to rolling in my mom’s T-Bird. Now every Wednesday you get to take that trip with me. It’s Way Back Wednesday with Butch, and today’s feature celebrates a woman who will be in out area this summer and will be honored at the Golden Gods Awards this year as well… Joan Jett’s, “Bad Reputation.”

Earlier this week it was announced that Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will open for Kid Rock on July 25th at Cheyenne Frontier Days. And just earlier today it was announced that Joan will also receive the much deserved Golden God Award at this years 2014 Revolver Golden Gods Awards. So we thought we would celebrate her big week!

I chose my personal favorite Joan Jett song... "Bad Repuation" which was released on her debut album with the same title in 1980. In 2009 it was named the 29th best hard rock song of all time by VH1. It is the highest song by a woman on the list.

Utilizing a Ramones-inspired template, Jett proves a force to be reckoned with. As much attitude as her male counterparts, Joan is at the top of her game here. The song itself rings out like a genuine anthem for disaffected youth. Later used as the theme song for the classic television show, 'Freaks And Geeks,' the song has had staying power through the years and still shines as a staple of her live shows.

Take a trip back to 1980 with us here...
