Will Colorado’s Next Football Stadium Affect Traditions?

For most football fans, Colorado is Broncos Country. Since 1960, football fans in Colorado and beyond have been bleeding orange and blue, and the team's homebase has consistently been in the heart of downtown Denver.

However, some changes that may take place in as few as six years may change not only the location of the Broncos' home stadium, but some of the longstanding traditions associated with the team and its fans as well.

Colorado's Football Conundrum: What's in a Name?

Despite bearing names like Empower, Invesco, and Sports Authority field over the years, hardcore Broncos fans will always call it Mile High.

Of course, the Mile High moniker refers to the 5,280-foot elevation of the city of Denver, but if a new stadium is built in a different city, as rumors are possibly suggesting, the consistent name might be affected.

For example, one possibility could see a new stadium being built in Lone Tree, which has an elevation of 5,948 feet, while another suggests that a new stadium could be erected in Aurora, a city with an elevation of 5,404 feet.

Colorado's Football Conundrum: Getting Out of Denver?

As mentioned above, it's possible that the Denver Broncos' home base will no longer be in Denver proper but rather in a suburb of the Mile High City, including Aurora and Lone Tree.

While a change like this would clear up traffic along I-25 during game days, neither of these towns is conveniently located in terms of the hustle and bustle of downtown Denver.

Colorado's Football Conundrum: The Great Indoors?

Another change that may be coming to the Denver Broncos' home field could see the team playing in a new, indoor arena or even one with a retractable roof. While this option would prove to be a nice change on game days with especially adverse weather, it would certainly require fans to adjust to the way they've enjoyed Broncos games since the team's inception.
