Colorado’s 7 Tiniest School Districts Have Fewer Than 80 Students

While students get to relax after spending the majority of their days learning, teachers will get a break from handling all of those kids.

On average, an individual teacher in the United States will have approximately 17 students in the classroom, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Colorado's average is just a bit higher.

For teachers in all schools from Elementary to High School, the average class size in the Centennial State is around 17.4 to 18.

In some school districts, this might seem like the average. However, in some of the smallest schools in the state, this is actually just about half of their entire student body population.

7. Agate School District No. 300

Total # of students enrolled: 75 

Agate School District No. 300, located in Elbert County, serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade, according to Niche.

15% of students at this school district are at least proficient in math and 25% in reading. This is all based off of state test scores.

6. Pawnee School K-12

Total # of students enrolled: 65

Located in Grover, Pawnee is considered the 11th best school in all of Weld County, according to Niche. 

Colorado state test scores indicate that this K-12 school has a math proficiency level of 35% and 45% reading proficiency.

5. Silverton School

Total # of students enrolled: 75

Silverton is widely considered one of the smallest and most rural districts in the state. Located in San Juan County, the K-12 district has state test scores that show that the math and reading proficiency score sits at around 15%, according to Niche.

4. Pritchett School District No. Re-3

Total # of students enrolled: 61

Pritchett is one of only five school districts in Baca County, according to their official website. Eleven teachers work at Pritchett across the whole Pre-K through 12 school district.

3. Plainview School District

Total # of students enrolled: Approximately 40

This public Pre-K through 12 school serves the towns of Sheridan Lake and Towner, according to the Plainview School District website.

2. Campo School District No. Re-6

Total # of students enrolled: 31

Campo is another school located in Baca County in the Southeastern part of the state. The district's goal is to,"... provide a safe environment for all students that promotes respect, responsibility and learning."

1. Kim School District

Total # of students enrolled: 26

This is yet another Pre-K through 12 school. So, does that mean there are maybe two kids in each grade?

Kim is located in Las Animas County and is the "Home of the Mustangs."
