5 Tips For Preparing Your Car For the Heatwave in Colorado
The heat has arrived in Colorado, and temperatures are triple digits in some places and only a few degrees shy in other areas. Many are flocking to the pools, lakes, or mountains to cool off this summer as a heat wave is taking over the state. While staying cool is a must with these temperatures, it is also important to keep your car cool as well. Some in Colorado are not used to the heat and don't know how to take care of their vehicles in the summer. Here are some things to do to make sure the heat in Colorado doesn't cost your vehicle dearly in the coming weeks and months.
Check Your Tires in Colorado Heat

While most know that cool weather can deflate your tires, did you know heat can do the opposite? It can overinflate them as the rubber expands in the heat, and this can wear your tires quickly. They are too expensive to have that happen, so make sure to check the pressure frequently, especially on warmer days.
Use Sun Shades This Summer in Colorado

This one may seem obvious, but it is best to keep your vehicle as cool as possible during the summer heat. If you have little ones or elderly passengers, it is wise to keep the sun from beaming through the windows and taking a toll on their bodies and raising their body temperature. It is also good to keep your car cool if you park it in the sun during the day. If you have sunshades built into your vehicle, use them, or invest in some.
Check Your Coolant Levels in Colorado

Obviously, keeping your car cool is important as you drive, and if your coolant levels are low, it could make for an uncomfortable drive, and it could mean your car overheating and breaking down as well. Check the levels before any extended drive and make sure they are topped off.
Have an Emergency Kit

Every vehicle should have some sort of emergency kit in it, but in Colorado, most likely prepare for if you get stuck in a blizzard or during the cold, long winter. It is a good idea to have a summer one as well. What should be in your kit? Make sure to have water to stay hydrated, sunscreen so you don't burn, something to shade you, and snacks that can hold up in extreme heat.
Don't Leave These Items in Your Car

There are certain things that do not do well in heat, and it is wise not to leave these items in your car. Do not leave anything in a can in your vehicle, as it can explode during extreme heat. Also, make sure not to leave batteries or medicine in your car as well, as they can melt or no longer be effective.
