5 Ways to Escape the Heat During Hot Colorado Days
The dog days of summer have begun, and despite the higher elevation and the nearby mountains, Colorado is not immune to the heat. Temperatures have been reaching triple digits in many places across the state, and with less atmospheric protection than other places, it often feels warmer. With plenty of warm days ahead over the next month or two, residents and visitors in Colorado are looking for ways to cool off. Here are five ways to stay nice and cool during the hottest days of the year in Colorado this summer.
Escape to the Mountains in Colorado

One of the best parts about living in Colorado is the Rocky Mountains. The great thing about the mountains in summer is you can escape to a town high up in elevation and find much cooler weather. Take a drive or the train up Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs, go to Estes Park, or go into Rocky Mountain National Park and go up Trail Ridge Road. There are a plethora of mountain towns you can visit that will be much cooler than the towns in Northern Colorado or the Denver area.
Find a Pool to Use in Colorado

It sounds obvious and simple, but finding a pool in Colorado is the easiest way to cool off. No matter if it is your own, at a hotel, a community pool, or an apartment complex, there are many pools in the area to use. If you do not have one, make a friend and use their pool. If you don't own a pool, a splash pad is always a good way to go as well, as they are often free and in public parks and areas around the state. There are some fun pools in Northern Colorado with waterslides, such as City Park Pool in Fort Collins and Winona in Loveland.
Take a Dip in a Lake in Colorado

Colorado is home to hundreds of lakes. There are some high up in the mountains, some at the base of the mountains, and some in valleys and hidden in areas you may not be aware. Sadly, some of these lakes are private, so it is good to know ahead of time before entering one if you are allowed to swim. There are some great ones in Rocky Mountain National Park you can hike to, like Arrowhead and Emerald Lake, and there are other lakes in Northern Colorado like Carter Lake and Horsetooth Reservoir that you can drive to and jump into within minutes without having to hike.
Go on a Cave Adventure in Colorado

While lakes, pools, and the mountains are nice, how about going into the mountains and the earth to cool off this summer? Cave of the Winds near Colorado Springs is a great way to get underground and out of the sun. It is a great way to see some of the beauty hidden in Colorado and to stay cool during a warm summer day. If you have never done a cave tour before, a hot summer day is a great time to do so.
Enjoy a Day at Water World in Colorado

Cooling off is one thing, but why not have some fun and take advantage of the heat? Instead of just floating in a pool, being in a lake, or in a cool area, how about going down waterslides, floating the lazy river, and playing in the wave pool at Water World? No matter how old you are, waterparks are fun for all ages. You only get so many days a year in Colorado where you can enjoy the park, so take advantage of it on a hot day and go have some fun as a family while cooling off.
