[WATCH] Artist Makes a Diorama of an Iconic Colorado Landmark

When I was younger, one of my favorite hobbies was building model cars. I had all sorts of them. Sometimes I would mix parts from one vehicle to another to try and customize them as much as I could. Try as I might, I never was really good at the hobby as a whole. Maybe I didn't have enough patience for it, partly because I dreaded waiting for the paint to dry.

At times, I think to myself "I should get back into model making", then my attention is shifted to something else. You gotta love being an adult with A.D.D. While I might not take a step back into the hobby of building models, that doesn't mean I appreciate the process. One of my favorite things to do is watch YouTube videos of models and dioramas being built.

There is one channel in particular that I am very drawn to and he either lives or used to live in Colorado. The YouTube channel I am talking about is from Boylei Hobby Time. The channel started in January 2020 and has 227 videos, more than one million subscribers, and more than 109 million views.

Boylei Hobby Time has created some of the most unique pieces of artwork you will see anywhere. From imaginary fantasy to recreations of iconic movies, Boylei Hobby Time has created dioramas that will make you say wow.

One of these dioramas really piqued my interest earlier this week and I have watched it at least three times since discovering it. This diorama was posted on YouTube three years ago and I am just now finding it. YouTube's algorithm is wonky, to say the least.

Crystal Mill, Colorado as a diorama

If you have lived in Colorado long enough, you have seen this iconic landmark. Crystal Mill is located in Gunnison County and has been around since 1892. In 2023, after numerous reports of bad behavior by hikers and Instagrammers not following the leave-no-trace rule, the owner of the property closed down access to the historic site.

Sadly, a lot of us will never get to witness the glory that is known as Crystal Mill in person. Boylei Hobby Time recreated this amazing Colorado spot as one of his magnificent creations. Watch this video, and I am sure you will be as mesmerized by the entire process as I was.
