One of the perks to being on the radio is NOT how much I get paid, but it is getting to meet a lot of cool and famous people. And as I have said before I am a music fan, no matter the genre. This weekend at the Greeley Stampede I had the chance to meet a country singer named Jerrod Niemann, and got him to play a song during his show for me. Here's how...

Because I get to meet quite a few cool people, I wasn't all that excited to meet Mr. Niemann. Usually meet and greets are very impersonal, basically shake hands, take a picture, and go on your way. And since I didn't know this guy very well I really didn't care if I went or not.

I'm happy I went!

The guy knows how to do meet and greet! After every picture with each person he would actually hold a conversation with you. With me, we talked about my little rock station called Loudwire. He asked me who some of my favorite bands were and I rattled off a few including Led Zeppelin and Sublime. The minute I said Sublime, he stopped me in my tracks and said I needed to meet his record promoter. The promoter came over and was introduced to me as the guy who promoted Sublimes first two records. When they saw how excited I was about this Mr. Niemann told me that if they got an encore for the show that night he would play "Santeria" for me.

I got excited and told everyone around me during the show, and most of them kind of laughed it off, but when he came back out for an encore and jammed Sublime I looked pretty cool. I felt pretty awesome too. For a country star to take the time to do something for the fans, it meant a lot. Other artists should take a lesson from this guy.

You rock Jerrod Niemann!

Turns out it wasn't the first time he had done such a thing, but it was still cool... Here is a video from somewhere else that he did it.
