Good People Do Still Exsist

There was a time in my life when things had gotten the better of me, and I became a rather negative person. Complaining all the time and really feeling bad for myself. One day I got tired of being down in the dumps and made a slalom vow to live the rest of my life looking at the positive in everything.  After a weekend to forget it was going to be easy to start complaining again, but instead I want to point out the good in a bad situation.

So, Friday night I was invited to participate in my good friends comedy show, and it was absolutely fantastic. One of the most fun things I had ever done in my career. After the show some friends and I went out for some drinks and I vividly remember a friend saying that they had a bad feeling about the night. It was like the turning point for a bad weekend. We all have them, and it can always be worse, so I wont get in to detail on the the things that weren't great for me this weekend. There was one event that stood out though.

Saturday night I went to dinner at a restaurant, and was just getting ready to take my first bite when I heard over the loud speaker that the owner of a black Nissan truck needed to come to the front. That was me. So when I got up there the staff informed me someone had hit my truck in the parking lot. I went into the lot to check the damage, thinking that whoever had hit me probably drove off. As I was looking an older lady walked up and said with an expression on her face that she could start balling any moment "I am so sorry." She explained that she normally parked in the back of the lot like she had so she wouldn't hit anyone, but I had parked back there too so I wouldn't get hit. Just so happened that what we both were trying to avoid happened.

Some folks would have yelled, or been really mean to the woman about the situation, but I took a deep breath and realized a few things. First, she didn't have to embarrass herself to the waitstaff, then to me, and anyone else who was standing and watching in the parking lot, she could have driven off like nothing happened. Plus, yea my truck got crunched up a little, but that's fixable, her night was way worse than mine. She is the one who will have to face the insurance companies, she was visibly shaken, and embarrassed. Why make her night worse?

To me she is a good person for doing the right thing. If more people like this woman were around, there would be a lot less bad weekends!
