EA Games “Wins” as the Worst Company in America
As a blogger for Loudwire, rarely do I get the opportunity to talk about video games. This is just one more reason for me to be happy about EA Games being dubbed the "Worst Company in America." If you've played more than 10 games in your lifetime, chances are one of them was an EA title. Since they're so big, this news is actually making some headlines!
For the second year in a row, EA Games took the "Golden Poo" award for America's worst company. Yes, the "Golden Poo" is a real award... I'm not sure if they actually have trophy, and if they did I'm not really interested in seeing it. Regardless, they won!
You would think after earning this title last year, they would have been a bit more careful about their actions going into 2013. So what happened? Well, this time around it was all about the new 'SimCity' game. First off, nobody was actually able to play because all of their servers were overloaded upon release. So when people wanted their money back, customer service simply ignored them.
Another factor that was considered is the endless amount of greed. A good example of this is any sports franchise game. They release a new one of these every year for $60 and make next to no changes. This is the digital age people! EA is more than capable of updating a football team's trades over the internet and downloading it to your console.
EA beat out Bank of America, Ticketmaster, and Comcast, all of which were in the running. I didn't even know "contests" like this were held but I approve of them! I love it when a credible source (The Consumerist in this case) recognizes sketchy business practices. Too often are companies allowed to take advantage of their customers.
Before I go though, let me say this. There are companies in this country who are probably a bit more deserving of such a title. EA isn't actually causing physical harm to people or the environment. They earned this title after thousands of consumers around the internet joined together and pushed people to vote for EA. Here's the thing though... If BP for example was voted the "Worst Company in America," would that clean up the Golf spill any faster? Of course not. EA however can actually learn from this and make the changes necessary to satisfy their future customers. So because of that, I completely approve of this decision.
