It is easy to get carried away with emotions, especially for someone who loves animals, when a pet is shot and killed by police. In some cases, in order to keep the community safe, they have to do just that. The Commerce City Police officers that shot a dog this weekend may have actually been in the wrong with their fatal shots as a home video shows.

Police were called because an unfamiliar large dog was on the loose. The man who called the cops said he never feared the dog, but just wanted animal control to pick it up since it was loose.

Turns out the dog, Chloe, was visiting the neighborhood for a few days while her owners were out of town. The woman who was watching the dog said she left the 3-year-old dog in the garage when she left to go shopping. She thought she closed the garage upon leaving, but it seems the dog tripped the sensor forcing the garage door open. That's when Chloe started roaming the neighborhood.

The neighbor who called the police said  for about 30 minutes, the dog just sat inside the open garage door near her bed while officers decided what to do.

His son filmed the action with his cell phone from across the street (WARNING; Graphic video)...

As you can see one police officer uses his Taser twice on the dog driving her back into the garage. Then, as the dog tries to run out of the garage, an officer pulls out his gun and shoots at the dog.

After the first shot, the dog is captured by the animal control officer on the catch pole. But, after it is captured, a police officer fires four more shots at Chloe, killing the dog.

Now I am no expert on how you are supposed to handle loose dogs, but after watching this video I would say it's not the way these officers did it. There was never a moment during that video that I had a concern for the officers safety. These officers seemed frustrated, and took that frustration out on a dog that didn't need to die. I just hope the department reviews this incident with an open mind, and the officers are treated the same way a regular person who shoots an innocent animal would be.
