Colorado Avalanche Coach Patrick Roy May Single-Handedly Cause Me to Care About Hockey
You may call it a poor excuse, but ever since the NHL had their last couple of lockouts I have really lost all interest in the sport. I can't name five players in the league, the games seem to often come down to a team getting a lucky bounce to win, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of intensity. It seems as though at least that last part has changed with a new coach on the bench for the Colorado Avalanche.
It was only game number one for Patrick Roy as an NHL head coach, and he has left everyone know he isn't just a retired player looking for something new to do with his time... He means business.
Soon after the final horn of a 6-1 win, Roy yelled at Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau and then pounded on the glass partition separating the two benches. Roy was livid over a late knee-to-knee hit on rookie Nathan MacKinnon.
Roy said he will "always defend my players."
The Av's coach says he has been fined $10,000 by the NHL for the incident.
