Butch’s Grammy Reaction
As a music fan I try not to miss "music's biggest night," but there are some major issues with the show. Most importantly it seems to focus on two genres, country and pop/ac. There are so many other types of music out there that should be included if you want it to be the biggest night. I did take some good away though too... Mostly Katy Perry's chest!
First the good... Call me a horn-dog or whatever you please, but my favorite part of the whole show was when the camera happened to pan over to Katy Perry because she was dressed to perfection! Even better yet, she didn't perform, so I got to enjoy her rack without having to bare through her music.
I also loved that the show featured a tribute to Bob Marley. I have plenty of complaints about how it was done, and who did it, but the fact that they recognized reggae music, which isn't necessarily the big thing right this second, shows they do know there are other genres out there. Plus I am a Bob Marley freak, so I am bias.
Now the bad... I think Corey Taylor summed it up best on Twitter "I’m happy for Halestorm, but sad because the Grammys don’t respect our genre AT ALL. We get one category and it’s not even televised." I didn't even know that hard rock got a category until after the show was over, and was then very displeased it couldn't at least be televised.
To me rock is Halestorm, Stone Sour, and such, not Coldplay, not Mumford and Sons. Those guys are talented, but they play pop music. The Grammy's don't know what rock is, and have no respect for it whatsoever. Jack White was as rocking as it got as far as performances go, and to me was a poor example of our genre.
Finally, not that anyone will hear us, but the rock community needs to get at the Grammy's and make them give us a small spot. Make the show about all types of American popular music, not just country and pop. PLEASE!!
P.S. Thank you Katy Perry for keeping me entertained!!!
