Butch Does Rock Jam 2013 in Grand Junction
I have gotten to travel a little here and there, but it was all by choice. But this last weekend, for the first time ever, I got to travel for work. Not far, just across the state and over the mountains to Rock Jam is where we got to go. I wasn't sure what to expect from a work trip to a rock n' roll festival, but it turned out pretty cool...
Rock Jam is is a two day festival in a big ass field about a half hour drive outside of Grand Junction in a little town called Mack. I went with our computer guy, Adam, the cooperate computer chick from New York, Stephanie, and Grand Junction's computer guy, Tim. We were there to meet people, meet bands, and get a bunch of good stuff for our websites.
So basically in a nutshell here is how it went for me...
I quickly found out that i had a badass hotel room (remember I don't get out much) with the most comfortable bed I have ever touched, and a shower bigger than my whole bathroom at home. I knew that I couldn't spend four days alone in that thing, so I had to find a new girlfriend at the festival as well as work.
At the festival they have this tent setup called the House of Rock where every band on the bill comes in and hangs out on these really comfy couches to do an interview to be broadcast on the jumbotron before their show. Somehow I ended up getting to be the interviewer. So I was sitting on a couch on a stage with the likes of Fuel, Three Days Grace, Hinder, Lynyrd Skynrd, and more with almost 50,000 people outside of the tent watching it on the jumbotron.
I was also asked to interview Three Days Grace and Korn for a national radio show. So I hung out with two of the biggest rock bands in their dressing rooms. And I must say, that after a few years of doing this I don't get too nervous, but when the professional film crew set up all their stuff and stepped into a small room with the guys from Korn, I started shaking a bit, and I may have yellow stains on my undies now...
In between all my interviews I got to take in part of the festival, and Korn was by far the best show, almost a religious experience of sorts! But after that a new up and coming band called Stars in Stereo blew me away... Watch for those guys! I also found that I had a stalker!! Some chick who wasn't bad looking just staring at me, and every time I went somewhere else and turned around there she was staring. I was kind of scared at first, but then later in the night I got the nerve to talk to her, took a picture (BELOW), and she told me I was gorgeous before asking me back to her tent... But I loved my bed in my hotel room so much, and we had bonded, so I declined to be with it alone. We also went on to meet a guy who was hiding from his wife, another who tried to fight me over my chair, and a chick with a vagina tattooed in her armpit... Good times!
All in all, I made a ton of new friends, met a bunch of cool rock stars, and didn't find love, but did have a great time! Next August, make plans, you're coming with me to Grand Junction for a Rock Jam party!!
(As I slowly get the videos of the interviews done, I will pass them along, but below are some of the pictures of me with the stars!)
