After all the tragic airplane crashes in the news lately, you might be thinking, "Is it safe to fly?"

There has been yet another fatal passenger plane crash in the news. My heart goes out to the friends and family members of the 162 people that died Sunday on AirAsia Flight 8501. I can't even begin to imagine their grief.

After so many tragic flight disaster stories (just yesterday I wrote about a crash in Centennial) is seems impossible NOT to be terrified of flying. Is it safe?

YES. DON'T BE AFRAID TO FLY.

Flying is the safest form of transportation.

Last year, according to the Aviation Safety Network, there were only 265 casualties out of approximately 31 million flights throughout the world. There is an average of 32 fatal plane crashes a year. 32! Out of 31 million!   In 2013, there were 1.24 million car crash fatalities. That means that last year, 265 people died in airplanes, and more than 1, 200,000 died in cars.

According to theweek.com, you have a better chance of being killed by a shark, than in a plane crash!

It is safe to fly. While we are all deeply saddened by recent events, we can not allow them to make us afraid to live!

And... Happy New Year.
