AC/DC, ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock and Roll)’ – Butch’s Way Back Wednesday

As a music fan there is always something new and great, but there really is something special about the songs you grew up listening to. For me, that was 70′s and 80′s classic rock. If I am in a shi**y mood, I throw in a little Zeppelin or Rush and take a trip back to rolling in my mom’s T-Bird. Now every Wednesday you get to take that trip with me. It’s Way Back Wednesday with Butch, and today’s feature celebrates a music icon, Bon Scott, who died on this day 34 years ago (Feb. 19th)… ACDC's, "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock and Roll)."

The date was February 19th, 1980 and legendary AC/DC front man, Bon Scott had been out drinking with friends, but the casual evening took a terrible turn as Scott passed out in his car, and ultimately choked to death on his own vomit. He was only 33 years old.

The band had already begun working on songs for the follow up to ‘Highway To Hell,’ and Scott was due to start adding to the process that very next day. Contrary to myth and legend, there are no tracks in the vaults with Scott’s vocals on any of the material on ‘Back In Black.’ Ultimately, the album would end up being a tribute to Scott.

I choose to highlight "It's a Long Way to the Top" because I love Scott's use of bagpipes and you don't hear the song as much as some of the other AC/DC stuff. Plus, besides serving as a timely reminder of the years of hard work that go into "overnight success" in the music industry, he gave youngsters around the world a piercing new weapon in the battle against ear health.
