Halloween is tomorrow, but the decoration that a Denver man had in his apartment for the last couple weeks got taken down a few days early. That is because the decoration he had was actually no decoration at all. It was the real life decomposing dead body of his wife.

Denver police officers responded to a complaint of a foul smell coming from the apartment of Michaela Beth Ford and Steven Ford. When they got a key from the landlord to enter the apartment they quickly learned what the smell was from.

After being greeted by the family Great Dane, the dog "then turned and jumped on to the couch where officers observed an obvious deceased [woman] slumped on the couch," the search warrant affidavit said. The officers also saw a man slumped in a chair blocking the doorway entrance to the living room.

When they asked the man how long the woman had been dead, he replied, "She's not dead. She's fine," according to the affidavit.  The man appeared to be either intoxicated or "out of sorts," the affidavit said.

Police said the woman who was identified as Michaela Beth Ford, 32, appeared to have been dead more than 10 days and her body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Police noted there was a large hole in the drywall of the living room, dried blood on the floor and an over-turned television in the bedroom.

Ford has not been charged and police are apparently continuing their investigation, although they had no comment on the case on Sunday.

Although, you can't take a tour of the apartment in the name of Halloween, you can view the actual police search warrant affidavit here.
