25 Years Ago Today Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’ Was America’s #1 Song [VIDEO]

Not only was "Higher Love" Steve Winwood's first #1 hit, but it also rocketed his fourth solo LP, Back in the High Life up the charts and earned him a Grammy for Record of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. It was on this day 25 years ago that the song reached it's peak at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The video had so much success as well that the director decided to do almost the same thing for a Duran Duran video for the song "Notorious." Both videos were nominated for awards as well, but neither won. "Back in the High Life Again" , "The Finer Things" , and "Freedom Overspill" were also hits off the same album.
